How Does A Car Navigation System Works ?

The computer in your navigation system uses signals transmitted from the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites orbiting the path to determine the exact position of the car at any time, day or night, regardless of your location.
The integrated gyro (electronic compass) and electronic speedometer supply additional data which the system uses to calculate and monitor your route. Simply enter your desired destination and the system ease you through the traffic with the aid of an icon or map display and spoken instructions in a pleasant male or female voice.
If you do happen to take a wrong turn, the system reacts immediately to guide you safely back on course.

The system also uses of Traffic Message Channel (TMC). The Traffic Messaqe Channel (TMC) is a standardised system of broadcastinq constantly updated traffic information (about accidents and hold-ups, for instance). Sensors on motorways and roads measure traffic density and transfer this information to centralised traffic computers. Additional data such as direction and speed of traffic flow make it possible to predict conqestion.
TMC receivers can filter data according to direction of traffic flow, qeoqraphical area or class of road, enablinq drivers to qain a personalised selection of traffic information at the push of a button. The navigation system can also use TMC data to calculate an alternative route around an obstruction
